Classes meet at the Marlborough Recreation Department Jericho Hill building located near the west end of Brigham St:  Jericho Hill
Students will meet the coaches and their classmates and begin training.
At this time, we are holding all classes at the Jericho Hill Lodge; classes will move to the gym at the Hildreth School on Sawin St in Marlboro at some point in the future: Hildreth School.

The 90 minute Classes will follow this format:
Some running or a few minutes of games with running to get everyone warmed up, followed by stretching.
Fencing Footwork, with new movements and complexity introduced over time. This also starts conditioning. Games will also be used here to start teaching fencing patience & strategy.
Drills with the epee. Students are shown how to hold the epee, how to attack, how to parry.  Students will learn and practice offensive and defensive moves with a coach, with new movements and complexity added as time goes on.
Once students have some proficiency with the epee, they will start some bouting with a partner of similar size under the supervision of the coach.
As skills are developed, the students will be shown new moves, drill them with a coach, drill them with a partner, and practice using them in bouts.
In-class tournaments will be held to introduce fencing rules, tournament procedures, etc, and eventually students will be encouraged to travel to other New England division clubs for tournaments against other students.  Tournament Info

USFA Members receive American Fencing magazine quarterly, coupons for discounts with equipment vendors, and membership in the New England division of the USFA (NEUSFA), one of the largest divisions in the country with 1,450+ members (35% Girls/Women & 55% Boys/Men, across all ages). Sounds like a lot - but the different age groups are not all that big, so competitors all get a chance to know each other at tournaments during the course of the year.

Membership runs August 1 thru July 31.  USFA Members also receive a "durable and functional membership card and a key tag attachment that can be placed on a keychain, workout bag, shoelace, or anywhere that works for you!  The key tag can serve as proof of membership in the event that you forget or misplace your card" (description from USFA website). Proof of membership is required to compete in USFA/NEUSFA tournaments.
